Frequently asked questions
Most septic tanks need emptying every 1–3 years depending on household size and tank capacity. Privy monitors your fill rate and will alert you when your tank is approaching capacity.
The health score reflects the overall condition of your system based on fill level, sensor readings, and emptying history. A green score means everything is within normal range.
You can update your notification preference directly on the Account tab. To update your name or email address, use the Edit details option on the Account tab.
If the sensor hasn't reported for more than 24 hours the status strip will show an offline warning. Check the device has power and NB-IoT coverage, then contact your installer if the problem persists.
Subscription and payment
Payments can miss for all kinds of reasons: an expired card, a bank security check, insufficient funds, or incorrect billing details. Your bank or card provider will usually be able to tell you more. Your monitoring continues for 30 days after a missed payment.
Go to Account, then Subscription, and select Update payment method. Changes take effect immediately.
Your monitoring will continue for 30 days after the missed payment. If payment is not updated within that window, your subscription will cease and your tank will no longer be monitored. You will receive reminder emails with plenty of notice.
No. Your reading history and any Privy Certificates are preserved. Resubscribing restores full access.

Your account, sensor readings, and service history will be permanently deleted. This cannot be undone.

Certificates are kept. Any assessment certificates you hold are retained for 7 years to support property conveyancing — this is required by law. They contain only your property postcode, not your contact details.

Privy stores your name, email address, and property address to operate your monitoring account and deliver alerts. Your drainage readings are stored continuously to build your evidence record. We do not sell your data. You can request deletion of your account and data at any time by emailing us.

How we use your data
We use your contact details to send you alerts, your monthly evidence summary, and account communications. Your property address is used only to identify your monitoring location. Payment is handled by Stripe — Privy does not store your card details.
